Scientific Activity
In 1986, Rashid M. Tikhilov defended his PhD thesis on "Oxygenobarotherapy in the Treatment of Complications and Consequences of Limb Injuries" and in 1998, his doctoral thesis on "Surgical Treatment of Degenerative-Dystrophic Diseases and Consequences of Hip Joint Injuries".
In 2000, he was awarded the title of professor.
In 2022, he was elected a corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
Rashid M. Tikhilov is a recognized authority in his field. Under his direct leadership, a modern system of hip joint surgery has been developed, ranging from organ-preserving techniques to joint replacement in complex cases and revision arthroplasties. The Center conducts research on the nature of femoroacetabular impingement and other variants of pathological development of the hip joint. Research has been initiated to evaluate the effectiveness of completely new surgical techniques for treating dysplastic hip osteoathritis - periacetabular osteotomies and arthroplasties in cases of high hip dislocation, using various types of shortening osteotomies.
Research is also being conducted to study the mechanisms of biofilm formation and the potential for the impact on microbial biofilms of fundamentally new drug forms containing silver nanoclusters. Another important area of research is the development of individualized joint surgery based on prototyping technologies and 3D printing of individual implants, which has enormous significance for revision and complex cases of primary arthroplasty of large joints.
Since 2001, the Joint Replacement Registry has been operating at the Center, allowing for reliable information on the gender and age composition of operated patients, the surgical technologies used, the implants installed, and the survival rates of endoprostheses. In 2013, federal centers for traumatology and orthopedics from Cheboksary, Barnaul, and Smolensk began participating in the registry, and later, departments from various cities in Russia were also included. Currently, the Joint Replacement Registry is the only tool in Russia for assessing the effectiveness of operations, possessing an extensive database with the ability to evaluate a multitude of indicators.
One of the most significant scientific events in the field of traumatology and orthopedics is the annual international scientific and practical conference "Vreden Readings", which has been held annually since 2007.
The international recognition of the Center's merits was the invitation of Rashid M. Tikhilov as the only representative from Russia to participate in the Consensus Conference on Periprosthetic Infection (Philadelphia, USA) in 2013. In 2014, a Russian-language version of the "Materials of the International Consensus Conference on Periprosthetic Infection" was published under his editorship, and in 2019, under his leadership, the "Materials of the Second International Consensus Conference on Musculoskeletal Infection" were translated into Russian and published.
Since 2015, he has been the chairman of the combined dissertation council of the Vreden National Medical Research Center of Traumatology and Orthopedics and Kirov Military Medical Academy 999.037.02.
Professor Rashid M. Tikhilov is the scientific advisor of 41 PhD dissertations and the consultant of 8 doctoral dissertations.
